GINSENG
01
What is ginseng?
Ginseng is a plant of the genus Panax and is mainly found in the forests of Asia and North America. The most famous species are the Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) and the American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius), the latter is characterized by a milder taste.
The root of this plant has been appreciated in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries and is known for its vitalizing and health-promoting properties. The name "Panax" comes from the Greek word "panacea", which means "panacea", and illustrates the wide range of applications of ginseng.
Note: The term "Siberian ginseng" refers to the Eleutherococcus (taiga root) and should not be confused with Panax ginseng.
02
Effect of ginseng
The effects of ginseng are varied and are mainly attributed to the active ingredients, the ginsenosides. These compounds have potentially regulatory effects on the immune system and the central nervous system. Ginseng is said to increase physical and mental performance, relieve fatigue, relieve stress, promote sexual health, lower blood sugar levels and support immune function. However, not all of these effects have been sufficiently researched and proven scientifically.
03
Lowering blood sugar levels
Ginseng has been shown to help lower and control high blood sugar. Due to its numerous antidiabetic properties, the medicinal plant is often used as a supportive therapy in type 1 diabetes mellitus.
04
stress reduction
Thanks to its adaptogenic properties, ginsenosides help the body cope more effectively with mental and physical stress. They contribute to the stability of the metabolism, regulate important hormones such as cortisol and testosterone and protect the cells from damage caused by oxidative stress. In this way, they increase exercise capacity, improve performance under stress and reduce the risk of stress-related illnesses.
05
psychologic effect
Studies have shown that ginseng has similar psychoactive effects in humans to guarana. The latter improves the mood and thus promotes motivation.
